hey jude: the archangel and el diablo

ok - here are our topics for this week...

#1 what impacted you most about this odd piece of scripture? had you heard it before? did it make sense when we read it in fusion?

#2 what did you learn from this week's experience? did god speak to you through the message in some way about your life?

#3 can you give me some personal feedback here? how clear was i about the purpose of this passage of scripture? did it all tie in together? or, did you feel like i just blasted out a bunch of facts with no bearing at all to real life?

#4 as always, if there's anything else you'd like to add that i haven't made space for, please feel free to post those comments here.

ok - thanks everybody!

I think the thing that impacted me the most was that God doesn't desire for me to water him down.
That he is the real deal and that he demands respect and devotion.
I want too many times to see him from the "grace" perspective -- "I know that God will be there and he will forgive me" when my intentions have not been for him as much as "for me".
Jude has not been one of the top 10 in discussion or preached list from my recollection. After hearing the podcast, I can understand why...it is challenging and has lots of directions that it takes us a a reader. Thank you Dave for your simplification and translation for us and most of all your encouragement to draw us into it and check it out for ourselves. A good time for each of us to bring our Bibles to class! For me, the words, "He saves, and He destroys" were very potent. That God is a jealous God. For me to check myself...what do I stand for? What do my actions say to others? And very specificially for me, my spoken words...when I am ticked off, what do others hear me say? I am so very grateful to have the Holy Spirit to rely on, who interceeds for me, leads me and works through me.
As far as the angels...I would like to hear more on the topic. Very interesting and what we hear in our daily living is so human compared to the historical and biblical text. I appreciate your simplication of the topic. To hear that the spiritual world is all around us, that God is the main character, we are the actors, was an awesome analogy. What a journey we are partaking!HOw powerful of Jude to remind us of who is who in our spiritual journey.
Your word picture of the chickens and being booted was another "God really does not like some choices that I make" moment!
I do think it all tied together, but is very difficult for me to put into words to reply to you.
The bottom line for me is that we should be living our lives differently because we love God. God's desire is for us to take him in personally and fully. What we choose to do transforms us into being closer to him or keeps us from him.

I think what impacted me most about this piece of scripture was the oddity of it itself. There are so many different ways that God tries to speak to us through the Bible. Isn't it amazing the different styles He uses? David, I think you did a great job explaining that. This was more attempt at God getting through to people who were not listening. This is not a familiar passage to me. I'm still fuzzy on it. And I guess that's what I heard God saying to me this week. Stay tuned...there's more to come. Keep learning, keep digging, keep paying attention. Keep trying to be like Jesus. As far as the delivery of your message David, I think the purpose was clear. It definitely required concentration and deeper thought than some passages. There is a lot to sort through. I look forward to next Sunday as you continue to lead us through Jude.

I was impacted by a few things in particular about the scripture...1) the depth of Jude's message - connecting as much of scripture does to other references or cultural aspects. I always gain so much more out knowing where the bridges take us. I have not personally spent time studying this book, so I was impacted by Jude's message; 2) a good reminder that there is still ultimately a battle waging ALL THE TIME. Where, how, when am I observing this?

I agree with Jill that it is easy for us to slip into the "grace" perspective of God, without giving equal view to His sovereignty and jealousy. It is good to be reminded of the healthy fear I am to have.

David, as always, you took the potentially vague and complex and made it connectable. I think you did a great job of making it connect to our everyday.

Peace~
