Decompression May 7 Greetings to each of you - Dott, Glenn, Mike & Rae (alphabetic order) I thank each of youfor agreeing to participate in this forum. Please be patient with me as I get my berings. As believers in the redemption of Christ, each of us has rich faith stories. As members of one body, perhaps each of us will be enriched and experience the presence of God more fully as we reflect on Dave's message each week.
1) What impacted you most about the first two chapters of Ephesians? Any new isights Are building the "temple", redemption & grace as relevant today as they were in Paul's time?
2) Can you imagine writing / sharing God's grace and message of unity from a "prison stink hole"? In our trials and imprisonments, which times are we most able to bring together beliefs and behavior? Do we always seek reconciliation with God or people in our lives or do we sometimes put it off?
3)If our inheritance is the presence of God, NOW, in what ways do we interfere with this divine experience? Are the reasons accidental or intentional? Do activities, people or work seemingly contribute or detract?
4) How does it feel to be named as fellow citizens with the saints, members of God's household? Does this heighten our responsibility to change? What would we consider changing?
I welcome any feedback. Iprayed and revised the above. Not sure if it captures Dave's intent. Perhaps ther are ideas further in this book each of you wants to discuss. If so, mention that. Of course, the focus is on Christ, taking in His word, through Dave's teaching, and our personal responses to Christ. This forum may stretch and grow us.
I will check responses later this week. Thank YOU ALL! Leonard
1) What impacted you most about the first two chapters of Ephesians? Any new insights? Are building the "temple", redemption & grace as relevant today as they were in Paul's time?
I am always impacted when I am reminded of Paul imprisoned in his excretement...and writing of rejoicing in the Lord ALWAYS! WOW! Talk about positive thinking and true belief in our God!!!
2) Can you imagine writing/ sharing God's grace and message of unity from a "prison stink hole"? In our trials and imprisonments, which times are we most able to bring together beliefs and behavior? Do we always seek reconciliation with God or people in our lives or do we sometimes put it off?
God's grace anew every day as when Paul wrote of it...the everlasting, unchanging God! Yes, it is relevant today as then because God has fulfilled His promise to be exactly what He said he would be :-)then and now and forever, AMEN!
2) I truly believe you cannot state you can't do anything UNLESS you are LIVING it. Then and only then can you do what you have to do to get through it. Not over it or around it!
I put off reconciliation much more in my "former life as a sinner" than I do now as a born-again, spirit-filled, mad-about-Jesus woman! I realize living more like Jesus is the way to go and to be more tolerant because I was carrying a HUGE beam of wood in my eye and focusing on the TINY specks in others eyes.
I find it funny that I am most critical of those most like me :-)Learning a lot all day, every day!
3) If our inheritance is the presence of God, NOW, in what ways do we interfere with this divine experience? Are the reasons accidental or intentional? Do activities, people or work seemingly contribute or detract?
I intentionally interfere with God when I get my stubborn streak "on" and try to do things "my way". After failing at my attempt, God will "sneak in" and "gently remind me" He is the only One who can take care of me and my needs!
When I get to work I often lose my patience with others because they tend to be in acadamia mode where brains are far more important than Him. I have Scripture verses posted at my cubicle and pray a lot during the day for these people who drive me crazy at times!!! If they only knew...the power of Him is what really counts!
At Fusion on Sundays I love the worship, the music, the teachings and the camraderie of the WW church family. I am refreshed and renewed for the week ahead and try to be a better Christian and apply the teaching to what I face during the week.
4) How does it feel to be named as fellow citizens with the saints, members of God's household? Does this heighten our responsibility to change? What would we consider changing?
I lived for 47 torturous years of low self-esteem, self-doubt and major depression beginning in my teens in the aftermath of being raised Roman Catholic.
I did not know of the loving God, the caring God, the forgiving God, the accepting God. I knew the God who put babies in Limbo because they hadn't been baptized. And the sins that left black stains on my soul. And the nuns in the funny black habits SWINGING their rosary beads AROUND as they terrorized 7-year-olds with all this scary propoganda called Catechism. We never cracked a Bible open!!! Just the propoganda they selectively handed out! And the Mass was in Latin with the priest facing away from the worshippers!
So, I can honestly proclaim I am absolutely blessed to be loved by God, forgiven of my sins, and be a saint! I was taught that only the Pope in Rome could elevate someone to sainthood after they exumed the body and it was intact after x amount of years. I am definitely driven to change because now I know the truth and it sets me FREE!
I change my behavior to meet God's standards now because I know about them through reading the Bible, attending regular worship and teachings. I no longer base my feeling/thoughts, and actions on the beliefs I was raised on.
